Philosophy of Care

Our Philosophy of Care

At Wimbledon Villa, our philosophy of care is grounded in four connected ideas: Strengths-based Care, Person-Centred Care, Te Whare Tapa Whā and Positive Ageing. Together, these guide the way we support each resident — not just by meeting care needs, but by seeing the whole person. We take time to understand each resident’s story, routines, preferences, culture and relationships, and we work alongside family and whānau to help life here feel safe, meaningful and familiar.

Strengths-based Care

We focus on what each person can still do, not just the help they need. By recognising abilities, interests and life experience, we support residents to keep contributing, making choices and staying involved in everyday life.

Person-Centred Care

Every resident is different, so care should never feel one-size-fits-all. We listen, get to know the person behind the care needs, and tailor support around their routines, preferences, values and goals.

Te Whare Tapa Whā

Wellbeing is more than physical health. We value the four pou of wellbeing — tinana, hinengaro, wairua and whānau — because each one matters to a person’s sense of balance, identity and belonging.

Positive Ageing

Growing older does not mean losing purpose, dignity or joy. We believe later life can still hold choice, companionship, learning, contribution and meaningful moments, and we aim to create a home where these can continue.
