Care Fees & Subsidy

Understanding residential care fees can feel a little unfamiliar at first. At Wimbledon Villa, we aim to keep the process clear and straightforward.

Long-term residential care fees are based on the maximum contribution set by the New Zealand Government for our region.

Wimbledon Villa does not charge an additional premium accommodation fee, therefore the amount you are responsible for will simply depend on whether you are paying privately or receive government assistance.

If you receive a Residential Care Subsidy

  • Some residents may be eligible for financial assistance with the cost of residential care.
  • Work and Income completes a financial means assessment and determines how much the resident contributes. The remaining approved funding is paid directly to Wimbledon Villa.
  • Our team can help point you in the right direction if you are unsure where to begin.

If you are paying privately

  • For residents who are not receiving a Residential Care Subsidy, the standard long-term care fee is based on the Government’s maximum contribution for the Manawatū District.
  • From 1 July 2026, this is $1,518.65 per week including GST.
  • This covers the usual contracted residential care services, including accommodation, meals, cleaning and laundry, nursing and personal care, regular activities, and many everyday clinical care needs.

What is the Comfort Fund?

  • The Comfort Fund is simply a small personal spending balance for everyday extras that are not included in contracted care.
  • It is commonly used for things such as hairdressing, toiletries, small personal purchases or an occasional special outing. For many residents, around $30–$50 per month is usually sufficient, depending on their own needs and choices.

How do I apply for a Residential Care Subsidy?

  • A Needs Assessment is normally completed first to confirm that long-term residential care is appropriate.
  • If residential care is required, an application for the Residential Care Subsidy can then be made through Work and Income, who will complete the financial assessment.

What if I want to keep my home?

  • If someone does not qualify for a Residential Care Subsidy because of the value of their home, a Residential Care Loan may sometimes be available.
  • This is an interest-free Crown loan secured against the home and is assessed by Work and Income. Families should normally check subsidy eligibility before considering the loan option.
